Update - Fire at my Flat

Hello all!

Just to let you know after a full week of cleaning and washing of walls and ceiling, carpenters and painters etc, with the help of various friends and extended family volunteering their time and energy, the house is having a new look now. We have been able to make the living room look liveable again, but with a new painting all round, it looks like we're just moving into the house fresh.

If anyone comes in and is not aware of the fire incidence, they will assume we are just moving into the place. All the inner rooms that have thick layers of soot on the ceilings, walls and things inside have all been cleaned out, the electrician has installed a more effiient (we are told) junction box that would act as a better circuit breaker in case of high or low voltage from the Power Holding Company Of Nigeria (PHCN).

We have reasons to thank God again for we heard that a few months ago, two bus stops from our place, a similar event occured on a week day from the same high voltage shorting out some wires and burnt a whole building of 4 flats down! The parents were out but neighbours managed to get a ladder and weilder to cut open the burglary bars at the windows and rescue three small children trapped inside.

A neighbour in the same compiund also said a friend of his, wife and 2 children died in a similar fire incidence because it occured at night and they came out too late to see the only way out blocked.

Just 2 days ago also, a bank about a half mile away was also razed by fire that broke out in the lower banking hall at night due to electrical fault.

Na wa o! PHCN will not burn all our homes and property down with the erratic voltages they supply.

A good advice is to make sure a good circuit breaker is installed in the home, and also leave all wall sockets in the off position even if there is no appliance plugged in. Someone suggested unplugging your cutout from the meter mains when leaving the house unless someone would be home. But what if you have fridge and things inside (not that you get power long enough to matter though) or you are sleeping at night when fire from electrical source starts?

I think we just need to praye more for God's protection for ourselves, after all, we are told to pray for one another and he is a Father that listens and speedily answers even if he tarries a while!

Shallom and keep swimming in the love of God.
